Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)

Some states in the US allow nurses to have one multistate license, with the ability to practice in both their home state and other compact states. This makes it easier for nurses to work across state lines without needing to obtain additional licenses.

Here is a list of the compact states as of now:

NOTE

Some states in NLC require a Primary State Of Residence (PSOR). Like a driver’s license.

  • 1. Alabama

    3. Arkansas
    4. Colorado

    6. Florida

These states have agreed to recognize the nursing licenses issued by other member states, making it easier for nurses to move and work in different states. It’s important to note that while the list of compact states is regularly updated, not all states participate in the NLC. Nurses should check the current status and requirements of each state they are interested in.
